Here we go! Well, this is the tweet most of the Barcelona fans would love to hear considering our prolonging defensive problems to strengthen it with some young talent. Could Sergino Dest be the best option for Barcelona?
SERGINO DEST AT AJAX
The 19-year-old American defender born to an American father and a Dutch mother in the Netherlands had pursued his footballing career in Netherland since 2012. With a choice to choose between The Netherlands and USA, the youngster had decided to go with the latter to represent the country at a national level. Being part of the youth system of Ajax since 2012, the young American has moved up the ranks and secured a place in the senior team in 2019.
Ajax, known for their youth development programme, has produced Dutch talents over the years, and Dest is another promising product of Ajax. Being a defender and growing through ranks through a system which has been impressive over the past decades can only groom this kid and place the spotlight on him to get noticed for his skills and potential.

WHY SERGINO DEST TO BARCELONA IS ESSENTIAL?
Barcelona’s biggest issue is defence. We don’t have much options at the back. For fullbacks, Alba and Firpo at the left and Roberto and Semedo were at the right. But, we have one less option at the right-back now with Semedo’s exit from the club.
Nelson #Semedo to Wolves is ‘here we go’ and confirmed. The deal is done and will be signed on next few hours also with Barcelona. Personal terms agreed with Mendes until 2025. Medicals on next week. 👌🏻🐺 #Wolves
…now it’s time for Dest [but Bayern are confident to sign him].
— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) September 20, 2020
With Jorge Mendes, the Portuguese football agent confirming the move of Diego Jota to Liverpool from Wolves this past week, the transfer news of Nelson Semedo joining Wolves for a fee of around EUR 40 million looks imminent as a replacement for Matt Doherty who has joined Spurs. Even though Semedo was announced as a non-transferable player by Barcelona off recently, the money coming in through the transfer could boost the squad for the re-vamp process ongoing by Koeman.
Koeman who has been a graduate of the Ajax youth programme and a part of the dream team era of Barcelona has been making his opinions very clear ever since his arrival as manager, a job he always longed for. With a possible departure of Semedo, Sergio Roberto would be a preferred choice right-back, but he would not be playing in his preferred midfield position.
Eric Garcia, another youngster who moved to Manchester City from Barcelona in 2018, has already been linked with a move back to Nou Camp since the end of last season. But Sergino Dest would be preferred by Koeman and Barcelona agents have already contacted Ajax for his transfer.
SERGINO DEST TO BARCELONA, THE ODDS?
Sergino Dest has been on the market and heavily linked with Bayern Munich. Still, interest from the Blaugrana’s will be on a higher level with the possibilities of the Semedo deal being confirmed to Wolves. French champions, PSG have also been previously linked to Dest but not in the highest of interest unlike European powerhouses of Bayern and Barcelona.
Dest is under contract with Ajax through 2022, so the Dutch club is not necessarily compelled to sell him, but if the player prefers to go, there may not be a better time to cash in on his value. Barcelona had reportedly offered 10m +5m variables for Dest, but Ajax is seeking out more. Apparently, Bayern looks closer than Barcelona but the the transfer window remains open until Oct 5, and a lot can happen till then.
The 19-year-old USA defender will be an added advantage for Koeman if the transfer from Ajax goes through. The persistent defensive problems of the club have to be looked into, and Koeman may be reshaping the club for the better. While Dest is still young and is yet to prove his quality, he has shown the potential he has at Ajax.
The composure he shows when the ball is at his feet speaks volumes of a player and to add to that; he has an incredible skill for a defender. Accurate passing and putting in a shift every time he is on the pitch by contributing to the team’s gameplay is an essential feature in his game.
Koeman would love to have him at Barcelona, and so do we. With Ajax and Barcelona having their youth development programmes spoken around the footballing world, Koeman who love to groom Dest into becoming one of the finest future stars in Barcelona.
We will have to wait for a “Here We Go” from Romano before we find out if this deal is on the cards and goes through in favour of Barcelona.
