The six-time Ballon dO’r winner has decided to stay put and continue with the Catalan side for at least some time in the near future.
Lionel Messi’s current contract which was signed in 2017 as an extension in a four-year deal, will expire in June 2021. A clause in his contract enables him to leave freely at the end of any season. Inter Milan and Manchester City are said to be interested in his service however, Goal.com is satisfied he would continue to play for Barcelona until the end of the next footballing campaign.
Most recently reported; Mundo Deportivo claims that the Argentine would sign a contract until 2023.
Lionel Messi has continued to impress this season again as; out of 69 Barcelona leagues goals this season he has 21 strikes to his credit. He has scored 7 goals in the last 10 matches for Barcelona providing 8 assists in as much matches. Speculations surrounding Barcelona’s number 10 stated a bust up between the players and the board and was believed to worsen their relationship.
But as of the latest reports he is set stay and put things behind and re-sign.
“Over the next two or three seasons our leader will continue to be Leo Messi. There’s no doubt that he is still young, still strong. He is still ambitious.” stated Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu when asked about Messi’s future.
Messi remains the key for Barcelona’s success with his stay for at least another season; Barcelona is set to leapfrog Madrid in 2019-20 season and challenge for another European Silverware with Dominance in La Liga.
Messi is set to return to action again against a strong Seville in the third match after the resumption of La Liga in Roman Sanchez Pizjuan.
