FC Barcelona Femeni’s most ‘challenging’ game of the season so far ended in a 0-5 victory against Real Betis. The defending champions have yet to concede a goal, and the gap between them and their rivals increase. In four matches, Barca has scored an astonishing tally of 21 goals. The goal scorers for this match were: Aitana Bonmati, Mariona Caldentey, Asisat Oshoala, Caroline Graham Hansen and Jenni Hermoso.

Jenni Hermoso’s goal holds a significance of its own as the forward scored her 120th goal for Barcelona. She is now tied with Alexia Putellas as the second-highest scorer in history. The duo is only 3 goals behind the all-time record of Sonia Bermudez, who scored 123 goals for the Catalan club.

In this editorial review, our top editors will review the team’s performance against Real Betis.

Barça’s ‘complicated’ win

Barcelona is still waiting for a real challenge. In one of Barça’s more “complicated” games of the season, at least in comparison to the previous matches, they still ended up thrashing their opponent. They are the only team to have won the first four games of the league this season. They’ve scored 21 goals and still haven’t conceded. It was a brave Real Betis that tried their hardest to make life difficult for the Blaugranas, but it’s just so difficult to score against this Barcelona team.

Lluís Cortés’ squad makes it look so easy, they connect well together, and it has led them to be the most dominant team in Spain, making them look even stronger than last season. Another match with more than four goals scored, they’ve had 11 different players make their way onto the goal sheet so far this season. The team has so many options. Even after a month of not playing due to a virus, Jenni Hermoso got her first goal in the last minutes of the game. This Barça is extremely dangerous, and they have yet to meet an opponent that can match their level of quality.

Natalie’s Player of the Match: Caroline Graham Hansen does whatever she wants on the pitch. She got a very well deserved goal and an assist. CGH raises the overall quality of the team, and every time she has the ball, she manages to create danger. She’s every defender’s nightmare; there’s just no way to stop her. Her great connection with Torrejon made the right side of the pitch a completely Barça controlled territory that was constantly creating problems for Betis.

A team with true Barça DNA

Barça women have been on a roll ever since the season started. They have been unstoppable; they had scored 16 goals in their first 3 matches. They added 5 more goals to that tally making it 21 goals in 4 matches and have not yet conceded a single goal. The front line, midfield and defence are solid, and every match is played with near perfection. This match with Real Betis was no exception.

The first goal came from Aitana in under 20 minutes. The lead was doubled by Mariona, assisted by Aitana who was in a great form today. Right after the half time, Asisat added to the goal tally. Betis created some changes in the second half but couldn’t capsulise on the chances. The 4th goal came from Caroline Graham Hansen, who had been fantastic throughout the match. The final goal was scored by Jenni Hermoso who was playing after weeks of absence due to a virus.

Afreen’s Player of the match: Aitana Bonmati. Always difficult to chose from this fantastic side, this week my vote will go to Aitana Bonmati. She opened the scoring and also assisted the 2nd goal. The youngster has been very consistent this season and is one of the best young players in Spain.
